From award winners like Nero’s Class and Cereal to the gentle calm of The Neighbourhood or the warmth and fun of Maddie and Triggs, they really are making a mark. And it’s drawn the attention of producers and music makers alike, keen to find a new way to make programmes that reach our youngest audience with impact and meaning.
Kaifina is a creative eight-year-old child that can find the world challenging at times but is reassured in the knowledge that songwriting is her superpower. When the world presents Kaifina with a problem, she listens intently, gathers the facts and sets to work on creating a solution (in her very own Universe of Song).

Like any superhero with a superpower Kaifina wants to empower everyone around her. Her brother Frankie is a big inspiration and a hero to her. Frankie is Kaifina’s older brother, and she loves him very much and the way Frankie experiences the world is wonderfully unique but sometimes there are challenges. Their closeness and positive outlook on life is contagious to all around them.
The show and all of its songs have been written and produced by esteemed indie songwriter Colm Quearney (aka Q) who played with bands like Dragonfly, Lir and Square Pegs.

"I was writing songs with my daughter and her cousins for fun over a number of years," he says, "and our repertoire of 'family songs’ just grew. It was other grown-ups that were in earshot of hearing them that pushed me to find a place for them to be shared with other families, and I’m glad they did."
Kaifina's Universe of Song is made up of twelve episodes, each containing an original song. The show should appeal to audiences young and old. In fact, anybody who loves music and word play. It's not always easy to navigate life or to write songs but with their parents Mami and Pops, their cat Lucy and their dog Rexi, Kaifina and Frankie are always fully supported by their family.

"The inspiration for having a young superhero songwriter came from our daughter," says Colm. She grew up in a creative household where anything could become a song or a story – a drive to the seaside, watching the cats play or baking chocolate brownies. So, I was thinking from her perspective it was all that she knew. The Kaifina character in the play has creativity and imagination in her DNA and she interprets the events in the world around her as songs that need to be written.
"If she was Sherlock Holmes then all of the clues she needed would be found in the creation of a song, and her brother Frankie would be her Watson."
