Just weeks ago the light began to change. Already the sun hangs so much lower in the sky.

In the garden, I'm carefully deadheading roses and marigolds, geraniums and poppies, hoping to coax a last splash of colour from roots and branches.

Voices float up to the garden on the breeze from the shore....
